Varela Serviços

Varela & Ca. is a familiar brand to many Azoreans. Its buses have been driving around São Miguel since 1932, when they first started to connect the City of Ponta Delgada to São Roque.

In 1964, the Bensaude Group became a shareholder of the company, bringing in a new dynamism that benefited the business. Shortly after, in 1965, Varela took over the public transportation firms of Povoação, Furnas and Vila Franca do Campo, a move that gave the company a new dimension.

Today, Varela continues to be a known name in the transportation sector on São Miguel Island, providing a wide range of services:

Public Transportation in Ponta Delgada, Lagoa, Vila Franca do Campo and Povoação;
Bus rentals for tourists;
Transportation services for ANA, at the João Paulo II airport;
Minibus service in Ponta Delgada, in association with 2 other companies (Auto Viação Micaelense, Lda. and Caetano, Raposo & Pereiras, Lda);
Public transportation in Santa Maria Island, in association with the same firms.

Over the years, the company diversified its business. Varela also sells and provides after-sale services for motor vehicles and industrial equipment, and is the official dealer of the following brands:

Volvo (trucks and buses);
Volvo Penta and SDMO (maritime motors and generator sets);
Case and Volvo BM (industrial and construction equipment);
Still, Unicarriers, Cesab and Bendi (load-lifting machines) and Crown (industrial equipment);
Case IH (agricultural tractors);
